This presentation is intended to provide participants with a review of the scientific development of heat-induced epitope retrieval (HIER), as well as the various devices that have been used to perform this procedure. Special emphasis will be placed on comparing use of household (i.e. kitchen) appliances to instruments designed expressing for HIER. The cost associated with use of various devices and reagents will also be discussed. Handout material, including reference tables/spreadsheets and published papers, will be provided.
