About the Society

About Alabama Society for Histotechnology

This organization shall be known as the Alabama Society for Histotechnology, hereafter referred to as the Society.  This Society is organized for educational and scientific purposes and shall function within the structure of the these Bylaws to encourage continuing education in the field of histology; to strengthen communication and to get a prompt interchange of ideas and methods; promote understanding and cooperation between the histotechnologists and the allied professions.

Officers

The Officers of this Society shall be a President; Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and any other officers as may be elected in accordance with provisions of the by-laws.

Elections

As per the 1987 Bylaws the Nominations and Awards committee shall present its recommendations to the President for election of officers. The slate will then be presented to the membership, at election time (September, every 2 years), by mail, in the form of a sealed ballot, presenting the candidates running for office. Membership will vote by mail, with the option to write in their candidate for office. Ballots will be returned to chairman of the Nominations & Awards Committee for opening and counting and notifying elected officers. The consent of each candidate shall be obtained before a person’s name can be placed on the ballot.

Qualifications

An officer must be an active member in good standing of both the Society and the National Society for Histotechnology for a minimum of one (1) year prior to his/her election.
